Hanne-May Scheen

Hanne-May Scheen is a Norwegian artist whose abstract paintings and graphic works are deeply rooted in the subtle rhythms of the cultural landscape. Her art draws inspiration from the spaces between — where two planes nearly meet, where light grazes shadow, or where a narrow alley invites passage beyond what is seen.

Exploring the dialogue between structure and spontaneity, Scheen balances cultivated precision with organic gestures of color and form. Her compositions evoke the meeting of built and natural environments — the path through a forest, the play of water against a jetty, or the traces of ancient ornament still lingering in modern spaces.

Through her daily encounters with nature and urban terrain, she observes how light, season, and atmosphere continuously transform the world around her. In her work, these shifting impressions become meditations on transition, presence, and the quiet beauty of the in-between.
