Bob Hest

Bob Hest’s love of art and music started at a very young age, when his father took him to see Louis Armstrong. He continued to study art at Moorehead State University under Jack Younquist and credits him for everything. Hest, says he learned from him, ‘drawing comes first’. Upon graduation Hest went on the road, booking, producing and managing bands. He would eventually start his own production company in both Minneapolis and Santa Monica. There he and his co-founder composed music and compositions for television commercials and theater; two of which are in the permanent collection at MOMA. Fifteen years later he went back into the studio, he felt he finally had something to say and it’s still all about being able to draw. Much of his work is about how human beings look and feel. ‘A successful painting must tell the audience who that person is’. Hest, paints five days a week at The Casket Art Building. He says, most days, ‘I love it’.
